Teaching, editing, & book coaching

  • I teach fiction writing classes. My next class, “Jumpstart your gay novel,” starts January 5, 2026. Learn more here.

  • I offer editorial feedback on novel and memoir manuscripts (partials also accepted!), short stories, and essays.

  • I offer 30 or 60 minute coaching/consulting sessions on things like: self-belief (which I believe is the most important element of any writer’s practice), whether or not to get an MFA, how to apply for an MFA, submitting to literary journals, querying for an agent, the process of selling and publishing a book, how to structure your writing practice, and more.

  • I do not do: copyediting, proofreading, editing for punctuation, spelling and grammar, fact-checking, or layout work.

Testimonials

Celia’s coaching session was phenomenal! She tailored the session to my questions and needs, and gave a holistic perspective on the writer not only as an artist but as a human. Her experience writing in different genres, and background in publishing and querying agents, was extremely helpful. And finally, she never neglected sight of the creative instinct and drive within us that sustains what can be sometimes a grueling practice and industry. - Chen Gu

Celia was wonderful to work with! So helpful, so easy to talk to, and so generous throughout our coaching session! She made me feel comfortable right away by asking me about my writing process, encouraging me to share about the project I’m currently working on, and guiding the conversation in a way that engaged with my work in a serious and meaningful way, even though I haven’t been published yet. She shared specific and helpful advice without information dumping, and was open and realistic about challenges of the publishing world without making me feel like it's an impossible space to break into. I truly appreciated her kindness and attentiveness throughout our session and would love to work with her again in the future. I strongly recommend her to writers in any stage of the process! - Shannon James

Celia's "Jumpstart Your Gay Novel" class has been exactly what I needed to feel confident and excited about my queer story. I now have a solid outline and several scenes to work with, and better understanding of my characters. Not only was I able to iron out some of the kinks in my story and characters, but I was also able to renew my belief in myself and my work. Writing a novel can be a lonely journey, but having a group of peers and the guidance of a seasoned author for support and encouragement makes it not only bearable but fun! Highly recommend taking any class or workshop with Celia. - Erin Roca
